Here are some of the reasons I love Miyazaki Hayao/ Ghibli movies.
They reflect part of the Shinto belief system, which is native to Japan and was once merged with its Esoteric form of Budhism - known as Shingon.

to witness and still be at a loss - a personal defeat…

Today I saw a junior high school girl being struck with a tin pencil case as I was walking towards my afternoon lessons.
I was frozen.
The perp just kept on cowing her strange laughter as their class or school mates kept a creepily respectful distance.
The other girl simply shrunk away and sat submissively, visibly avoiding touching her own face.

There were 8 young guys, with no school uniforms, not too far.
I was and still am sort of in shock and disbelief.
I did not intervene - could all of that have been a trick of my imagination?

I would swear I had heard the metallic sound and her head bob away, as the taller girl struck.
I don’t know how Japan deals with physical bullying, but I am not Japanese and I am not OK with that.

Neither should any one.
To those who’ve dealt with bullying in Asian cultures, is there any input you’d like to share?
